A micro-roaster in every garage

I popped by my neighborhood micro-roaster the other night to pick up some new beans for the Manual shop and got to see Ceramic Coffee Roasters in action—with a cocktail in hand.

Over the last few years Chicago finally loosened up its cottage industry laws, allowing all kinds of interesting upstart food businesses to set up shop at home; In this case Ceramic has a full on coffee roaster installed in a garage!

I think lowering the barrier to entry is a beautiful thing—allowing more folks to follow their passions, grow their side projects, and bring micro-industry back into residential neighborhoods instead of pushing it out to the industrial corners or the rarified hipster blocs.

But enough of my pseudo-urban planning babble—thanks to Murtaza for letting me check out his set up (and the delicious Old Fashioned).

Scoop up this delicious Honduran coffee on our website or in the Chicago storefront!
